Although Australia’s Langhorne Creek region doesn’t have the fame of its better-known neighbor, McLaren Vale, winemakers like Ben Riggs have long relied on the area’s grapes to create regional blends. Although he consults for many wineries and helms his own successful brand, the energetic Riggs found time to team up with a posse of winemaking buddies in Langhorne Creek to create Zonte’s Footstep wines. This Shiraz comes from a site whose name pays tribute to Langhorne’s Lake Alexandrina. Its breezes refresh nearby vineyards (and vintners) and are key to the grapes’ slow, even ripening.
