• WINERY Tenuta Beltrame
  • GRAPE Cabernet Franc
  • YEAR 2005
  • COUNTRY Italy
  • REGION Friuli Aquileia

Famous for its distinctive white wines, Italy’s Friuli region is also home to bright, berry-scented reds, like this minerally Cabernet Franc.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Cristian Beltrame and his grandfather founded their namesake winery in 1991, converting a grand but rundown farm in the Friuli town of Bagnaria Arsa into a state-of-the-art winery. Like most Friuli vintners, the Beltrames focus on white wines, but they also grow a few acres of red grapes, including Cabernet Franc. In the temperate, sea-cooled climate of Friuli, this peppery, herbaceous variety typically yields zingy, lean reds; this one is unusually lush.
