A lot of Tuscan Cabernets taste like they could be from anywhere; this seductive blend comes across as very Italian in its polished cherry flavors.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

The Marchi family purchased Chianti’s imposing Michelangelo-designed Villa Collazzi in 1933, but it wasn’t until one of the daughters married into the Frescobaldi wine family that they started making wine on the property. From the estate’s 50 acres of vines, the Marchis make two wines: a Chianti Classico and this Cabernet blend, the kind of wine that used to be nicknamed Super-Tuscan until these nontraditional cuvées got their own designation (IGT Toscana). But there’s nothing supersized about this wine, which is enticingly smooth despite the hefty portion (60 percent) of Cabernet Sauvignon.
