This creamy white has unusual richness for a wine from Pouilly-Fuissé, an area in Burgundy’s Mâconnais region known for its racy Chardonnays.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

It’s easy to confuse the two “Pouilly” regions in France. Pouilly-Fumé is in the Loire Valley, and its whites are made from Sauvignon Blanc; Pouilly-Fuissé is part of the Mâconnais region in southern Burgundy, where the white wines are entirely Chardonnay. In its round texture, this Pouilly-Fuissé from Château de Beauregard shows the ripeness of the 2006 vintage; Mâconnais whites are usually crisper and more austere. Owned by the Burrier négociant family for more than a century, Château de Beauregard makes this Classique cuvée from estate vineyards around the villages of Fuissé, Solutré-Pouilly and Vergisson.
