As is common in Châteaneuf-du-Pape, no new oak was used in aging this red blend, so what you taste is pure fruit and subtle spice.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Sandwiched between two powerful vintages, Châteauneuf-du-Pape’s graceful 2006 wines are a good bet if you’re looking to open a bottle in the near term. Juicy rather than jammy, with fresh red fruits and classic minerality, this supple offering from Domaine Chante-Perdrix exemplifies the vintage’s charms. A family estate founded in 1896, Chante-Perdrix often adds a bit of Mouscardin to their red. Of the 13 grape varieties permitted in the region’s wines, it’s perhaps the most obscure and lends an exotic, spicy note to the blend.
