This fresh, peachy Riesling shows just how terrific Oregon’s ’07 vintage is.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

Lynn Penner-Ash made a name for herself crafting some of Oregon’s best Pinot Noir, so we were intrigued when we heard that she’d made a tiny amount (just 10 barrels) of Riesling. From two different vineyards—one in the hills outside the town of Dundee, the other on Illahee Hill, close to Salem—this racy wine expertly balances richness and acidity. Completely dry, it was aged in stainless steel, letting its pure fruit flavors come zinging through.

SMELL IT

Juicy stone fruits (apricots, peaches) with accents of almonds and candied lemon.

TASTE IT

Apricot flavors that finish dry and crisp, with great minerality.

SERVE IT

A bit rich as an aperitif, unless you’re serving hors d’oeuvres, too. Chill well.

PAIR IT

Its brisk acidity and midweight will take well to spicy foods, rich poultry, pork and shellfish.
