- WINERY Anfra
- GRAPE Montepulciano
- YEAR 2005
- COUNTRY Italy
- REGION Abruzzo
Filled with licorice-tinged cherry fruit, this lush red shows why Montepulciano is one of Italy’s most engaging red grapes.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Don’t confuse the Montepulciano grape with the Tuscan town of the same name (where wines are made mostly from Sangiovese). The Montepulciano variety is from Abruzzo, a region in the eastern “calf” of the Italian “boot.” Owned by the Savini family, the small Anfra winery sits outside the town of Pineto, with hilltop views of the Adriatic. Nero dei Due Mori is the estate’s top cuvée, made from the best barrels of the vintage. The careful selection shows in this polished, earthy red.
