Superstar winemaker Alberto Antonini
consults for wineries on four continents and
makes this wine from his own Tuscan estate.
What You Need To Know
Before launching his high-flying
consulting business, Alberto Antonini gained fame as head
winemaker for Antinori, the vast family-run company that’s one of
Italy’s most important winemaking dynasties. At Poggiotondo,
Antonini’s own Chianti estate, he focuses on a handful of modernstyle
Chianti wines made from grapes grown on the property,
which is located in the golden, cypress-studded hills halfway
between Florence and Pisa. This riserva is a step up from
Poggiotondo’s basic Chianti: Antonini makes it from the best
grapes of the vintage, ages it longer and boosts its fruity intensity
by adding Merlot.
