Plantagenet’s Omrah bottling pioneered newwave Australian Chardonnay, a style epitomized by this bright, crisp and unoaked white.
What You Need To Know
Plantagenet was one of the first wineries in Australia’s Great Southern, a vast coastal region south of Perth. Its cool, sea-chilled climate means that grapes ripen slowly and retain the natural acidity that’s key to creating vibrant wines. Omrah is the winery’s entry-level line, offering wines that show the finesse of Plantagenet’s acclaimed flagship bottlings at more reasonable prices. The 2011 Omrah Chardonnay was made by distinguished winemaker John Durham, who has since left Plantagenet. Durham aged the wine in stainless steel tanks (not barrels) on its lees, which are the spent yeasts. They add a creamy texture to its refreshing apple and pear flavors.
