This powerful Spanish red comes from a
family winery in Terra Alta, an isolated,
mountainous region in the county’s northeast.
What You Need To Know
Spain’s modern wine revolution has
transformed the country into a hotbed of experimentation. The
rediscovery of ancient vines and the introduction of international
grape varieties make it one of the most exciting wine countries on
the planet. Celler Piñol is a good example of modern Spain: The
winery was founded in 1945 by Terra Alta native Josep Arrufi, who
made wines according to centuries–old local customs. Now, his
granddaughter Josefiña Piñol and her son, winemaker Juanjo
Galcera Piñol, have turned the winery into one of the region’s
most experimental and progressive. This untraditional red is a
blend of both Spanish and international varieties, combined to
create a seamless, balanced red.
