Chile’s Maipo Valley is celebrated for making textbook, balanced Cabernets with vibrant but elegantly structured fruit.
What You Need To Know
Founded by vineyard owner Ricardo Peña and his wife, Isabel, Peñalolén was created to showcase wines of distinction made from grapes they purchase from like-minded growers. To that end, they enlisted a young French winemaker from Bordeaux, Jean-Pascal Lacaze, who is highly regarded for his ability to mold Cabernets of impressive depth while managing to tame aggressive tannins. The fruit for this wine comes from the Alto Maipo, lofty vineyards on the gravelly slopes of Chile’s famous Maipo Valley. The vineyards are low-yielding and are handharvested to obtain fruit with high concentration and plush textures.
