Patz & Hall produces culty Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from top Sonoma vineyards, like the famed Dutton Ranch.
What You Need To Know
Patz & Hall has made a vineyard designated Chardonnay from the Dutton Ranch site since 1998, although the site was first planted to vines in 1969, meaning it’s among the oldest vineyards in this coastal, fog-prone slice of Sonoma. Part of what makes the Chardonnay and Syrah from this site exceptional is the ranch’s climate, which has just the right combination of warm days and cool nights. The other defining factor is the ancient streambed that runs right through the vineyard. Its cobbled soils help give this apple-driven Chardonnay a stony depth. Acclaimed winemaker James Hall makes the wine in a refined style that’s both crisp and mouth-filling.
