Star Australian winemaker Ben Riggs
made just four barrels of this fabulously
crisp, minerally Chardonnay.
What You Need To Know
With its taut, fresh flavors, this
is an Australian Chardonnay for people who think they don’t
like Australian Chardonnay. It’s the work of Ben Riggs, who,
as an in-demand consultant, is famous for his ability to craft
overachieving wines in large quantities, like the terrific Woop
Woop bottlings. For his own label, Riggs shrinks his focus to
a few spectacular vineyards. From them, he fashions site-specific
wines that reflect the place they’re grown. He sources this
Chardonnay from a three-acre vineyard in the Adelaide Hills on
Australia’s southeast coast. Riggs picked the grapes “just after
the green, tart flavors disappeared” to achieve a vibrant white
that evokes the site’s sea-chilled air.
Lightly toasty apple
and citrus notes.
Stony melon and apple
flavors are crisp and intense.
