The bright, sweet blackberry fruit and spice notes in this rich Malbec make it a fantastic barbecue wine.
What You Need To Know
The Barberis family has been making wine, on and off, for at least five generations, starting with an emigrant Italian ancestor, Domingo Barberis, who built a small winery in Argentina at the turn of the 20th century. Unfortunately, Domingo died at 42 and the family lost the winery as a result. So the modern Bodega Barberis, founded by Domingo’s grandson in the 1960s, fulfills a generations-long dream. Today the bodega is run by the four Barberis siblings, Adrian, Walter, Liliana and Mauricio, who reinvented their father’s bulk wine business in the 1990s to focus on high quality Mendoza cuvées. Their namesake Malbec comes from hand-harvested grapes grown in Luján de Cuyo, a high-altitude corner of Mendoza that’s the source of some of the world’s best Malbecs. Its sunny days and crisp mountain nights yielded a terrifically ripe, vibrant red.
