This elegant Chardonnay gets its honeyed
peach and apple tones from the warm
weather in California’s Clarksburg district.
What You Need To Know
Located about 100 miles northeast
of San Francisco, Clarksburg has become an under-the-radar
source of good-value wines. The region’s vineyards, like those of
Napa and Sonoma counties to the west, benefit from cool sea
air that blows inland on hot summer afternoons, keeping grapes
from getting too sweetly ripe. That freshness is clear in this juicy,
balanced Chardonnay from Clarksburg Wine Co. and winemaker
Stacy Clark. A 20-year veteran of Napa’s respected Pine Ridge
Vineyards, Clark now consults for a handful of producers,
including established names such as Charles Krug and up-andcomers
like Clarksburg Wine Co. Clark fermented this
Chardonnay in French oak barrels, which gives it its satiny texture.
Candied apple, peach
and melon scents.
Succulent and silky,
with peach, applesauce
and vanilla flavors.
Chicken and creamy pasta
or rice dishes.
