What You Need To Know
It’s incredibly rare to find Sonoma
vineyards that pre-date the 1890s, thanks (if that’s the word) to a
deadly pest that destroyed grapevines throughout California.
But the Rue Vineyard, from which this muscular Zinfandel comes,
survived that decade’s scourge. Located in Sonoma’s Russian
River Valley, its ancient vines produce exactly the kind of small,
complexly flavored grapes that Zin master Carol Shelton goes
crazy for. Shelton makes lusty, exuberantly styled renditions of
the grape from a handful of top vineyards. For this bottling,
she kept the wine in barrels for nearly two years to soften its
Vanilla, spice and wild
