This small-lot red showcases the elegant, juicy side of the Zinfandel grape.
What You Need To Know
Burnside Road winemaker and owner Joe Otos sourced grapes for his 2012 Zinfandel from a vineyard on the eastern slope of Dry Creek Valley, the epicenter of Sonoma’s Zin zone. Otos loves Zinfandel, but focuses mostly on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay under his Willowbrook label. In fashioning this Zinfandel, he aims to bring a Pinot-like finesse to this sometimes rustic grape. For Otos, that means dialing back the wine’s ripeness (no syrupy fruit bombs) and dialing up its vibrant aromatics. He made the wine at a custom crush facility he owns in Sebastopol, Sonoma, and aged it in mostly neutral French oak barrels.
