Friuli’s climate is influenced by both the cool
Alps and warm Adriatic sea, producing white
wines that are racy and rich.
What You Need To Know
With such restaurant hits as Del Posto
and Babbo in New York, Joe Bastianich, along with his partner
Mario Batali, is one of the most famous restaurateurs in
the country. Over a decade ago, he chose to make wines in the
oft-overlooked Friuli region of northeastern Italy. Vespa Bianco,
a blend of local grapes, is his flagship white. Friuli’s temperate
climate notably produces richly textured, full-flavored whites—
the kind that go beautifully with the Italian food on which Joe
has made his name.
