of Sémillon and aging some of it in oak.
What You Need To Know
Spain’s Raventós family has been
in the wine business since the 1650s and is famous for inventing
cava, that country’s premier sparkling wine. So it was big news
when the Raventóses set up an outpost in Napa Valley in 1991.
Artesa Vineyards & Winery, their hilltop estate in the windswept
Napa subregion of Carneros, originally focused on Champagne-method
sparkling wines; today it produces still wines with fruit
sourced from across Napa and Sonoma counties. Winemaker
Mark Beringer incorporates traditional Bordeaux techniques in
making its Sauvignon Blanc (such as oak aging and adding a bit
of Sémillon) to craft a comparatively lush version of the variety.
