Zesty Sauvignon Blanc combines with ripe
Chardonnay in this exhilarating white blend
from France’s Loire Valley.
What You Need To Know
This unusual blend of two white
grape varieties is the brainchild of Martine and Christophe
Réthoré and their cousin Jean-Michel Davy. The trio joined forces
to rehabilitate a large vineyard near the Loire Valley village of
Saint-Rémy-en-Mauges, in an overlooked zone between the Anjou
and Nantes wine districts. They planted eight different grape
varieties, including Chardonnay, a grape traditionally found in
warmer districts. The site’s cool, maritime climate and stony
quartz and schist soil yield minerally white wines, like this
graceful, citrus-driven blend of Chardonnay and Sauvignon
and grapefruit scents.
Crisp grapefruit flavors
and lemon-lime acidity.
