Grüner Veltliner, Austria’s star grape, ranges
from light and dry to opulently rich. This
example is lush yet crisp.
What You Need To Know
Some of the best Grüner Veltliners in
Weinviertel, Austria’s largest growing region, come from vineyards
around the town of Röschitz, thanks to the region’s dry, rocky
soils. The Gschweicher (guh-SHVY-kher) family—Gerhard, Herta
and their three children—create five different Grüners from their
Röschitz estate. Their Kellerberg Reserve bottling comes from a
top vineyard of the same name. Like all reserve Grüner Veltliners,
it’s made from riper grapes that yield fuller-bodied wines. It offers
the crisp acidity and minerality that makes Grüner one of the
world’s most captivating and food-friendly grape varieties.
