This powerful red from Spain’s craggy Priorat region mixes traditional and imported varieties into a plush, layered blend.
What You Need To Know
In 2000, Marc Ripoll, then in his early twenties, returned to the Priorat region of northeastern Spain to reclaim his family’s vineyards. Previously, the product of the vineyards—parts of which were more than 90 years old—was being sold off to other producers. Ripoll knew its quality, though, which is why it’s taken but a few years to elevate his brand into the region’s top echelon. Reds from Priorat, a rocky, austere region outside of Barcelona, are warm and full and have become international sensations.
