What You Need To Know
Rioja’s reds are based on
Tempranillo, a cherry-inflected grape that, depending on how it’s
treated, can yield wines that are earthy, firm and spicy, or smooth
and lusciously fruity. This reserva bottling was produced by Rioja
Vega, a winery that has been around (in one form or another)
since 1882, and splits the difference between the styles. Its spice,
leather and anise notes show the savoriness typical of old-school
reservas, but there’s enough plum fruit to make it satisfyingly
