Syrah has emerged as one of Washington’s signature varietals, and Amavi Cellars makes some of the state’s best.
What You Need To Know
Amavi Cellars is a Washington winery that’s owned by three families: the Goffs, the McKibbens and winemaker Jean-Franois Pellet. A native of Switzerland (admittedly, a country better known for its watches than its wine), Pellet nevertheless has a gift for tapping the refined side of Walla Walla Valley reds. Amavi was started in 2001 as a lower-priced sister label to Pepperbridge wines, the acclaimed, pricey estate that’s owned by the same partners. Although more affordable, Amavi’s wines arguably compete with those of Pepperbridge— meaning that they’re usually a total steal.
