This polished Garnacha comes from one of the pioneering wineries of Somontano, a remote Spanish region that’s been rediscovered.
What You Need To Know
Known as Grenache in France, the Garnacha grape yields supple, spicy reds loaded with deep raspberry and black cherry flavors. It’s among the most widely planted grapes in Spain, where wineries like Viñas del Vero are exploiting ancient, low-yielding vineyards to make exciting new wines. Founded in 1985, when Spain’s quality revolution was just taking off, Viñas del Vero was among the first new wineries in Somontano, a plain west of Barcelona that climbs upward toward the Pyrenees foothills. This bottling comes from old vines in the high-altitude Secastilla Valley, where cooler temperatures create thick-skinned grapes that yield more intense wines.
