When he’s not helping his dad make Forman
wines, Toby Forman makes a few micro-lots
of his own, like this appley Chardonnay.
What You Need To Know
Toby Forman grew up helping his
father, Ric, at Forman Vineyard, the family’s well-regarded estate
in Napa Valley. For his own wine label, Toby and his wife, Dawn,
started small, making a few hundred cases of Napa Valley Cabernet
in 2009. This Chardonnay is their first. Although it’s labeled with
the large North Coast appellation, the grapes come from a small
vineyard in Potter Valley, a subzone of the coastal Mendocino
district just north of Sonoma. Made from hand-picked grapes and
aged in French oak barrels, it gets its food-friendly crispness from
Mendocino’s cool nights.
