The Salomons split their time between their
historic Austrian winery and an Australian
estate, the source of this velvety red blend.
What You Need To Know
With namesake wineries in two
hemispheres—Austria’s Salomon Undhof and Australia’s Salomon
Estate—vintners Bert and Gertrude Salomon are never too far
away from harvest time. Fortunately, they have excellent help in
both countries, including Mike Farmilo. Formerly the chief red
winemaker at Australia’s iconic Penfolds Winery, Farmilo lends an
assist with Salomon Estate wines, including the Norwood, a
classic Australian blend of Shiraz and Cabernet. The first variety
gives this wine its spicy blackberry and plum flavors, while the
Cabernet boosts its structure and tannins. Sourced from the
Salomon Estate on the Fleurieu Peninsula, an enclave south of
Adelaide, it’s rich and beautifully balanced.
