Oscar-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla
produces great wine as well as great music. This
bold Malbec comes from his Mendoza estate.
What You Need To Know
As if winning two well-known film awards (for the
scores to Brokeback Mountain and Babel) and more than a dozen
well-known musical awards weren’t enough, Argentine rock pioneer Gustavo
Santaolalla plunged into the world of wine in 2005. He and wife
Alejandra purchased a 54-acre estate in the prime growing region
of Luján de Cuyo, a high-altitude corner of Mendoza that’s the
source of some of the world’s best Malbecs. The Los Angeles–
based couple teamed up with a friend, award-winning musician
Raúl Orozco, and enologist Juan Carlos Chavero to make three
wines, all based on Malbec. This rich, bold bottling is named for
the Santaolallas’ son, Don Juan Nahuel.
