What You Need To Know
Though growers and winemakers have
resided in Rioja for generations, it was only in 1982 that the
Mendieta-Osaba family created it’s own brand. Bodegas Riolanc is
in Rioja Alavesa, a distinct subregion from Rioja Alta and Rioja
Baja. For decades, a typical Rioja was blended from grapes from
all three regions, but more and more wineries tend to focus on a
single place. Not as high as Rioja Alta, Alavesa is still fairly cool,
and its limestone soils produce wines of intense character and
deliciously bright acidity.
