This light, lemony white exemplifies the easygoing charm of Vinho Verde, Portugal’s refreshing “green wine.”
What You Need To Know
Vinho Verde wines come from a lush, rain-prone slice of Portugal’s northern coast with emerald hills that could stand in for Brigadoon. In this damp climate, farming without artificial chemicals is especially challenging, but Aphros’s proprietor, Vasco Croft, wouldn’t consider any other way. A former Waldorf educator, Croft converted his family’s 16th-century Minho farm into Portugal’s first wine estate farmed according to biodynamics, a type of über-organic farming founded by philosopher and Waldorf inventor Rudolf Steiner. Croft’s introductory Ten bottling is, like all four of his white wines, made solely from the native Loureiro grape. It’s bracing and bright, and best of all, its low alcohol makes it incredibly refreshing.
