What You Need To Know
Round Pond Estate is the kind
of place that makes tourists want to pick up and move to Napa
Valley. Owned by the MacDonnell family, the stately property
includes a gorgeous home and 450 acres of gardens, vineyards
and olive groves, plus a small winery. Bob and Jan MacDonnell
purchased the estate in 1983 but have handed off its day-to-day
management to their children, daughter Ryan and son Miles. It’s
located in Rutherford, a prestigious Napa subzone that’s the
source of some of the US’s most acclaimed Cabernet Sauvignon.
Although the wine carries a Napa Valley label, its fruit comes
almost entirely from the Round Pond estate. A dash of Petite
Sirah, grown off-site, boosts the wine’s color and tannins.
