This toasty white comes from one of California’s most famous vineyards, located on a ranch once part of a Spanish land grant.
What You Need To Know
Qupé’s Bob Lindquist is one of America’s most passionate and talented vintners of Rhône varietals—that is, Syrah and its unjustly obscure sister grapes, the white varieties Roussanne, Marsanne and Viognier. But Lindquist makes a small amount of Chardonnay each year, too, nearly all of it from the legendary Bien Nacido Vineyard, a historic 900-acre hill in Santa Barbara County. On a clear day the Pacific Ocean, 20 miles away, can be seen from its peak. Chilly seadriven breezes preserve the acidity of grapes for this luscious, small-lot Chardonnay.
