Thanks to fantastic late-summer weather in 2007, grapes for this luscious coastal Pinot got perfectly ripe.
Marin County is shorthand for two things: high real estate prices and scenic hiking trails. But this posh suburb of San Francisco is quickly gaining a reputation for stellar Pinot Noir. Though Pey-Marin makes a few small-lot wines from other California regions, it was among the first to stake a claim to Marin Pinot Noir. Its "Trois Filles" cuvée comes from two vineyards in west Marin, very close to the Pacific. In these chilly, fog-covered hills, getting grapes ripe before winter rains arrive is a difficult endeavor, but the payoff is Pinots of seductive depth and complexity.
Fruity, spicy and a touch herbal: Bing cherry and light clove scents.
A lush texture and vivid flavors of cherry and thyme.
Cellar temperature--the bottle should be cool to the touch.
With almost anything: rich vegetable dishes to meaty fish, a grilled pork chop or an herb-rubbed leg of lamb.
