This smooth, complex red Burgundy comes from a vineyard in Givry that was recently promoted to premier cru status.
What You Need To Know
One strategy for finding delicious, affordable Burgundy is to look beyond the pricy Côte d’Or neighborhood to less prestigious regions such as the Côte Chalonnaise, the source of this complex red. Vintner Michel Sarrazin helped elevate the reputation of Givry, the town where his family has lived since the 17th century, by taking its wines to a new level of quality in the 1970s and ’80s. His sons, Guy and Jean-Yves, now mastermind the estate. For this rare cuvée, the brothers looked to Champs Lalot, a small vineyard at Givry’s north end. Long noted for its wines, the vineyard’s status was recently made official with a promotion to premier cru.
