Mercer Estates is an up-and-coming
winery from two old Washington state families: the Mercers, who
have farmed in the Columbia Valley for more than a century, and
the Hogues, who founded the incredibly successful Hogue
Cellars wine label in 1982. After he and his brother sold Hogue
Cellars in 2001, Mike Hogue plunged back into the wine business
in 2007 with his old friends the Mercers, plus daughter and sonin-
law Barbara and Ron Harle. For this reserve bottling, founding
winemaker (and Hogue alum) David Forsyth blended together the
best Cabernet barrels of the vintage, rounding out the wine by
incorporating dashes of complementary varieties such as Merlot
Cassis and black currant,
