A southern French staple, Carignane also
thrives in Chile, as this focused red from a
celebrated winemaker demonstrates.
What You Need To Know
Acclaimed Chilean winemaker
Adriana Cerdi had spent a career making wines for others before
she finally started her own project, Meli. With her sons, she
bought a property in the Maule Valley that was unusual in that it
featured 60-year-old vines of Carignane and Riesling, varieties
rarely featured in Chile. The old, dry-farmed vineyard ripens grapes
slowly in this temperate subregion, which is notable for its long
growing season of cool nights and pleasantly warm days.
Cassis and black plum

mushrooms over black fruits.
At cool room temperature.
Beef, game and pork with
Provençal herbs and olives.
