This zesty New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc is unusually rich, thanks to the warmer climate of the Wairarapa district on the country's chilly North Island.
A cool, rainy climate can make it difficult to get grapes fully ripe in parts of New Zealand--hence the tart, green-peppery flavors of some of the country's Sauvignon Blancs. Founded in 1980, Martinborough Vineyard was one of the first wineries in the Wairarapa district, located in the southeast corner of the country's North Island. Here, the Tararua and Rimutaka mountains protect the area from ocean-driven rains, leading to dry, sunny autumns that are perfect for ripening grapes. The result is a crisp white with an opulent texture and lovely intensity to its bright fruit flavors.
Citrusy aromas of lime and grapefruit.
Juicy pineapple flavors with a fresh, grassy edge.
Serve well chilled.
Terrific with spicy, herbal and acidic flavors, in dishes using everything from vegetables to fish and poultry.
