Some of the world’s great wines come from
France’s Rhône Valley, and often at relatively
sane prices—like this spicy, sophisticated red.
What You Need To Know
Perennially popular on the Napa Valley
wine trail, the family-run Judd’s Hill tasting room is a favorite
among touring wine-tasters for its hospitality, unpretentious
attitude, and fabulous wines (not to mention that it’s the first
winery one passes driving out of Napa.) This wine, however,
comes from Lodi, about 70 miles east of the winery, from a
vineyard of 45-year-old Petite Sirah vines on well-drained, sandy
loam that makes the savory, food-friendly type of red that Judd’s
Hill is known for.
