Kirk Venge, one of Napa Valley’s most
in-demand young winemaking stars,
fashioned this vibrant Sauvignon Blanc.
What You Need To Know
When Trent and Kimberly Jackson’s
father retired to an estate in northern Napa in 1996, he probably
didn’t predict that the move would change his children’s lives.
But not long after, Trent enlisted winemaker Kirk Venge to create
a tiny hobby wine for the family from the site’s Cabernet vineyard.
A few years later, Kimberly quit her technology job to plunge the
family into the wine business for real. Venge still produces an
estate-grown Cabernet under the Jax name, but now has free rein
to buy fruit for a label christened Y3, after the brand symbol
used on the Jacksons’ grandparents’ cattle ranch. Venge sources
grapes for the Y3 Sauvignon from a site in Napa’s Yountville
district. He picked the fruit early and fermented it mostly in tanks
to retain its bright, juicy acidity.
Green apple and citrus scents
with an herbal edge.
Juicy lemon-lime flavors that
are bright and fresh.
Green vegetables, salads and
light, zesty seafood dishes.
