Some of the world’s great wines come from
France’s Rhône Valley, and often at relatively
sane prices—like this spicy, sophisticated red.
What You Need To Know
Féraud-Brunel is a joint venture
between Laurence Féraud (fay-roe) of Domaine du Pegau and
André Brunel (brew-nell) of Les Cailloux, two of Châteauneufdu-
Pape’s most renowned producers. Made in tiny quantities, this
savory blend comes from Rasteau, a village appellation that’s
a step up from basic Côtes-du-Rhône wines. Féraud and Brunel
purchased the grapes from an old-vine vineyard just outside of
town; unlike some winemakers, who parachute in around harvest
time, they work with the grower all year to farm it according to their
specifications. Dense and meaty, this wine shows the results of
careful farming—and a powerful vintage—in its intense plum flavors.
