This bright, fresh Chardonnay gets a touch of
softness from Sémillon, a white variety that’s
usually made into dessert wines.
What You Need To Know
This Argentine Chardonnay
comes from Mendoza, the region that produces two-thirds of
the country’s wine. Across its varied terrain—which ranges from
dusty plains to snowcapped Andes peaks—the best wines come
from vineyards high up in the Andean foothills, where cool nights
preserve grapes’ crisp acidity. Valentín Bianchi, a large, family-owned
winery founded in 1928, sources this Chardonnay from
estate vines that grow at an elevation of 2,500 feet, in one of the
coolest parts of Mendoza’s San Rafael subregion. Those fresh
temperatures—and the skill of longtime winemaker Francisco
Martinez—show in the wine’s bright, balanced flavors.
