training in Napa, and his easy-drinking wines
show the influence of both places.

Iain Bolton clearly has a sense
of humor, as he named his entire portfolio using octopus-related
terminology (The Cephalopod, The Octopod, etc). His wines
are similarly lighthearted—meant to be drunk casually—though
that doesn’t mean they’re not made with serious effort and
technique. Bolton buys grapes from select vineyards in Northern
California and vinifies, blends and ages them himself. The results
