The Rhône Valley’s stellar 2009 vintage yielded loads of terrific wine values, like this this rich, cherry-driven red.
What You Need To Know
Domaine de la Damase is a tiny, organically farmed winery in France’s Côtes du Rhône district that might have remained obscure (to Americans, at least) if it weren’t for Kenny Likitprakong, a California skateboarder-turnedwinemaker who befriended its owners, the Latour family. Litprakong collaborates with Bernadette Latour and her son, Sébastien, on a red blend called Hobo and imports a small quantity of the Latours’ Côtes du Rhône. Sourced from vineyards that have been in the family since 1877, this wine, like all Côtes du Rhône reds, is a blend based on the Grenache grape; here, that variety’s fruitiness gets a boost of structure and spice from Carignane and Syrah.
