Some California Pinot Noirs are
so ripely fruity, tannic and dark that they evoke more muscular
grapes, like Syrah. But husband-and-wife vintners Clay Thompson
and Fredericka Churchill-Thompson prefer the kind of sleek,
spicy wines that come only from cool climates, such as those
from Alsace. So for their Central Coast Pinot Noir, the duo and
their winemaker, Coby Parker-Garcia, looked to Edna Valley, a
green, coastal corridor that channels chilly ocean wind and fog.
Their 2010 Pinot Noir shows its origins in its translucent garnet
hue, bright, spicy aromatics and juicy red-fruit flavors.
