A decade of aging has refined this
cherry-edged Bordeaux, which comes
from a five-acre plot in Pomerol.
What You Need To Know
Château Certan Marzelle grows only
Merlot, unlike many estates in Bordeaux’s Pomerol district,
which often blend in a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon or Cabernet
Franc to add oomph to Merlot’s lush fruit. For years the vines
were part of a larger estate that had once used the same name,
until 1999, when it was purchased by the well-known Moueix
family. Owners of several of the most prestigious châteaux in
Bordeaux (including Pomerol’s Pétrus and Trotanoy), the
Moueixes split the estate in two, forming the small, all-Merlot
Château Certan Marzelle and a super-pricey sister estate,
Château Hosanna, which also grows Cabernet Franc.
and cherry tones.
Firm tannins and generous
black cherry and black
the bottle should be
cool to the touch.
