Old vines and wild fermentation give this wine, from one of the world’s top Zin specialists, its strong personality.
What You Need To Know
Carol Shelton is one of the country’s most talented Zinfandel specialists, and wines like this show you why. Wild Thing is so named because the grapes are fermented with naturally occurring, wild yeasts from the vineyard that produces the wine. This vineyard, too, is special. Just north of Ukiah in Mendocino, the Cox Vineyard was planted in 1956, and at age 56 the vines are still going strong. Rocky soils and the most parsimonious irrigation regime cause these vines to produce luscious, chewy wines.
