Spain is a hotbed of red wine values from emerging regions; this blend of four varieties comes from a remote zone in the southwest.
What You Need To Know
Spain’s wine revolution has created thousands of new estates in the last three decades. They’ve transformed well-established regions, such as Rioja, and pioneered new winemaking zones. A case in point is Ribera del Guadiana, a sprawling region along the Portuguese border that’s part of the even larger-but still obscure-Extramadura zone. Both wine districts are in their infancy, having been officially recognized in 1999. Like many modern-style wineries in the region, Carabal relies on both French and Spanish grapes. This red combines French varieties (Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah) with Spanish grapes (fragrant Graciano and spicy Tempranillo) to create a polished, earthy blend.
