What You Need To Know
The Altivo wines come from some of
the oldest vines in the Uco Valley, a subregion pioneered by the
winery’s founder, Eugenio Bustos. A wealthy cattle rancher, in the
late 19th century Bustos planted the first grapes in this remote
valley, which lies at an elevation of more than 3,000 feet above sea
level. Soils here are generally alluvial sandy loams containing sand,
clay and gravel, while the climate is all about extremes: intense solar
radiation, bracing mountain breezes and cold nights.
